O. T. Farewell

I have heard this undertone brewing on the forum for awhile now, and I guess it has mostly flown under my radar, since I don't think any of my posts have been "adjusted". However, I can sympathize with those who feel slighted. I'm a Jack of all trades, Master of None, but I value this board immensely because of the access it offers me to some real experts in the field. I would consider it a great loss if some of our most experienced and knowledgeable members decide to take their knowledge elsewhere.

The question then becomes is there anything I can do to help with the situation? I suppose the only thing I can offer is my time and services to volunteer to help with moderation in any way. If helping AB as a volunteer with either direct moderation, or as a sounding board with moderation decisions would convince those on the fence to stay, I would gladly do it. Comes a time that one has to step up to the plate to preserve what one finds valuable....

One other thing to consider is an O.T. sub-forum for anything not directly Altec related that the collective membership wants to discuss or rant about. Obviously, some basic ground rules would need to be established, but maybe it's time to consider this option....

Exactly AA.. With a software upgrade coming in the very near future those adjustments will be much easier to apply.But have already suggested an Off Topic forum Sticky.I have not edited anyones post since August 16 2011.That was the first and last time after the discussion on it.The only thing I have edited since then is when someone posted an Off topic post and I added this to the Title (OT). Never edited the content of the post since that August day !

What is really funny to me is as I stated on that August day is that my inbox is open for suggestions or concerns and I have yet to receive a SINGLE PM.

So my question is Why Now are all of these opinions and concerns arising when I haven't been made aware of any of them ?

Alright guys, there are a lot of things that need expansion. And at least one automatic assumption that this is petty. That's akin to a person having plenty of food stating hunger isn't a problem in the world. IOW pretty darn myopic.

It's way past the time for blunt honesty. We are all adults her. I DO NOT like the suggestion that all discussions go to PM. Why should anything affecting us all be private?

IMHO the moderation has been extremely heavy handed. And getting worse. All under the guise of "Todd wants it that way.

BULLSHIT. If Todd wanted it that way, he would have moderated that way. He didn't.

AB considers the board his ego trip. Look at his title- "Super Moderator". the slightest criticism of him triggers a barrage of words like " I will no longer tolerate criticism!!!!!!!"
Most of you did not see that. He did to his credit, edit right away, but it should never have been posted. Think twice, post once.

AB anything more than one exclamation point per post is too many. Quit trying to win arguments by being louder.

If you think all this is petty, likely you are not a person who expresses strong opinions. Altec would never have existed without people with strong opinions about making better products.

Heavy handed moderation is going to drive away the best people.

Before posting anything in response, or engaging in moderation, the first test should be "Is this necessary?" If it's not broke don't fix it.

I remember a discussion between two "shade tree' mechanics. One said "My car is running good, haven't been working on it'

The other said That's why!"

I have zero interest in continuing under the current moderation style. I have invested more than most here but am not gonna throw good money after bad. Comments like "Don't let the door hit you in th ass!" to a valued member are offensive and uncalled for.

Grow a thicker skin AB. If you are in charge, you have to be the adult.

Any business arguing with it's customers is doomed. Accommodation consists of educating the customer and educating yourself to their needs. A nonprofit is still a business.

OG did you post Senior Hostboard Member under your moniker Old Guy ? AFAIK it's done by Hostboard.Ego ? On every other forum I have been to Moderators are always listed under monikers or in their signature are all Moderators on an ego trip ? LOL

Where does this heavy handed moderation come from ? All I have done since August was edit Titles with OT that were Off topic. And that's all. Why is it you guys don't ask these same questions on other forums only here is this done ?That speaks volumes to me.I also feel that a few members are Biased WRT this moderator.I also know the reason.

All your assumptions aren't correct either.Meaning no one is perfect.My concern has been and always will be the community first and no one individual.That seems to have offended some people.If Folk's can take a step back and look at the Big Picture I'm only trying to improve the forum for everyone.Fact is we are a growing community and there needs to be some rules.Back in the day when there were only a few that was fine. But if I have offended someone it isn't intentional.So my apologies go out to you.

Well what escalated this issue was the fact that mah decided to post the content of my PM on the board publicly without my consent. That has been and always will be Unacceptable on any forum.Instead of him replying and asking for verification this all could have been avoided.I would have explained.See this just looks like payback to me.Couple months back Mah started a thread and wanted to collect money for an unnamed member from forum members which clearly isn't allowed.Unnamed ? And he seemed pretty irritated by that...


Bowties suggestion of Altec,model,number,etc.. In the title would be all that is needed.It is going to be a tremendous help in the future.How many times have you gone through a thread after a search a lengthy thread only to find out the info you wanted wasn't there ?

All this is absolutely unnecessary.All could have been handled easily by Marshall and I.

The reason for the PM's is to prevent these kinds of arguments that tie up the forum for days on end with everyone coping feelings... It really detracts from our community and looks like crap for anyone who browses the forum for the first time.Who would want to join our forum when they see nothing but bickering for what amounts to trivial arguments.

I think there are a lot of us who can start acting like Adults.

I think were all grown men, and the feeling of having to have a babysitter like were some preschool class is what's got everybody up in arms. We know what the board is for and know better than to post useless bullshit (unless it slows down and we need some kind of fodder to get us through). Were just a gang of dudes hangin out and having a good time in Todds Internet Man Cave. And now I think some feel as Though AB is Todds Mom yelling down the stairs for us to turn it down!! :D

mah, I don't really see the point in that. It was just a discussion on being OT or not, that shouldn't have been posted in the way it was posted, in my opinon....... by either of you. I don't feel you needed to title you thread as being off topic, but you could have repsonded to the PM* you got instead of in thread. Altec Best in turn didn't repond well to that. In this situation/episode, I think you're both at fault.

You did state you got a Hostboard PM....... I've notived they all say they're from Steven went notified by email, but that would have been the PM sent by Altec Best.
